DAY 38, 39, 40 – November 17-19

Sunday, November 17

The Hostel

Today we checked out Agnes Waters. We finally got a sunny day, so we headed to the beach for the day.

We just had a relaxing day as we have a few busy days coming up. Our bus to Mackay was only at 8:30pm and is 8 and half hours long, so we will be on the bus all through the night.

Monday, November 18

We arrived in Mackay around 4:15am this morning. We arrived at our hostel and we were very happy to see we got a room to ourselves, it felt like luxury lol!!

Since we didn’t sleep much on the bus and it was only 4 in the morning we headed back to bed until about 8:30 as we had to be up for the start of our tour.

For the first part of the tour we drove a far distance to go see a waterfall called Finch Hatton Gorge. Once we got there it was a bit of a hike to actually get to the waterfall. It was very beautiful and we got to swim in it for quite some time.

After the waterfall, the tour guide took us to a local restaurant where we were all provided lunch – it was an Australian dish – pies (not the dessert kind). We were able to pick from a bunch of different flavours and we both chose chicken and asparagus with a creamy sauce. It was pretty good!

After lunch we headed to another spot to try and spot some turtles and a platypus! The tour guide told us they don’t always see them but we were lucky enough to see one.

We then went back to our hostel and just hung out there for the night and everyone headed to bed early as we have to be up super early tomorrow!

Tuesday, November 19

This morning was extremely early. We were up at 2:45am as we had to be on a bus by 3:15am because we were heading to a beach that was 45 mins away for sunrise. On this beach there are kangaroos and wallaby’s all over the beach, it was so cool to see.

After this, we went on a short hike to a lookout point and it was so beautiful.

After the lookout point, the tour guide provided us with a light breakfast before heading off to our next hike. During this hike, the tour guide showed us a special type of ant that has a green sack on their bottoms that people can actually eat and apparently it tastes fruity! We didn’t try it but the tour guide did lol.

After this hike we walked back to the van and headed back to the hostel where our entire group headed back to bed for a bit since we were up so early.

Later that day we all went to a wakeboard park and were taught to wakeboard. It was quite fun. I thought I was good enough to hit one of the biggest jumps at the park and wiped out pretty hard haha!

When we were done wakeboarding, our group hung out there for a bit, ordered a pizza and had a drink. Then headed back to the hostel for the night.
